Ronny Chieng
Ronny Chieng
was born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently an executive correspondent
for The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also developed and is the star of the
sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, that premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in 2017. Chieng was born to a Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor
Bahru (Malaysia). From 1989 until 1994, he was living in Manchester in New
Hampshire. Chieng performed in a comedy festival held in Melbourne, Australia
in 2013 along with Trevor Noah. Chieng was asked to audition for The Daily
Show's correspondent job two years after. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one
of the 10 Comics to be watching by Variety In October of that year, Chieng
appeared on The Daily Show to offer his response to a Jesse Watters Fox News
segment considered racist by many. Chieng broadcasts a tirade-filled critique
of the program on the conservative network. He also visited New York City's
Chinatown. Watters had mocked the inhabitants of the area and conducted
respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video was
featured by the Washington Post, Slate, as well as various other outlets.
Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout when he was a young teen. Despite living in
Australia for over a decade, Chieng is not a citizen or permanent residence
status in Australia. In the year 2018 Chieng admitted that he was unfriendly
during the Daily Show however, he afterwards, he clarified that Chieng was
"100 percent sure of dogs".
