Susan Sarandon Bio

It was after the 1968 Democratic convention and there was a casting request for a film that had several roles for young people who had disrupted the convention. Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected in spite of having previously studied acting. His wife Susan had a prominent role. That performance was of Susan Compton who was the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Next, Joe (Peter Boyle), a bigot who works on an assembly line and has a collection of guns, is a friend to Susan. Five years later, Sarandon creates the film. Janet is a transvestite who gets involved with the mysterious Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). After more than 15 years, Sarandon became a vocal advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself between Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. "It was an incredible script... It was able to do rid of a lot of misconceptions and challenged American definition of success," she stated. "When I arrived in the city, I spent some time with Kevin Costner, kissed some women at the studio and was back on the plane". Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, already had two sons before 1992 which made Sarandon in a position that she could leave her home and pursue difficult roles. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s, and the best actress award for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
